Inspiration: 5 Podcasts that rocked my world

Winter 2019 edition. It’s safe to say I have been a fan for quite a while of audio content. I was a big NPR listener as a kid, and just love podcasts. These 5 podcasts have stopped me in my tracks and filled me with inspiration, wonder, gut-wrenching awe, and more.

Tig Notaro Discusses Her Best Joke.Tig Notaro is my kind of comedian. I love her dead-pan delivery and jokes about cats. I love her grit. And of course this Vulture podcast digging into her run ins with Taylor Dayne just absolutely slay me. If you’re interested in learning about storytelling and performance this is a great podcast. By far an all time favorite.

Addressing Silicon Valley’s Leaky Pipeline. Carla Harris is as kind as she is brilliant. And this episode is one I listened to repeatedly. It is super powerful. This conversation inspires and gives tangible steps we can take to help address inequities across industries. It was hard to pick just one favorite episode. They are all compelling conversations!

WOEBOT: A VIRTUAL THERAPIST POWERED BY AI. Speaking of Silicon Valley, Caterina Fake, tech entrepreneur and all around badass has a new podcast which I love. Think RadioLab meets VC meets tech ethicist. This episode is particularly powerful. Mental health is at an all time crisis, some say because of our disconnection with humanity and focus on our phones and tech. Tech entrepreneurs have good intentions, but so much could go wrong.

BURDEN OF PROOF. I listened to this episode and thought. Ho. Lee. Mo. Lee. The balls on this guy. I was just astounded by the storytelling. And then the story and facts itself stopped me in my tracks. Malcolm Gladwell challenges and inspires. But in this case, he takes on the establishment and all of us to be better and do what’s right.

We’re Still Here For Janet. Speaking of the NFL, Wesley Morris and Jenna Wortham of the NY Times are the brilliant, thoughtful friends I look forward to listening to every week. No, I don’t actually know them, yet I learn so much from them—their connection to each other and their themes really moves me. I love how they take on big topics and bring love, frustration, empathy, and curiosity as they ponder together. This episode they talked about the Super Bowl Halftime show, and how unfairly Janet Jackson was treated for her “wardrobe malfunction.”

Enjoy digging into these and other podcasts. What do you love to listen to?
